center-right government of Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, as
Socialist leader George Papandreou promised to chart a new course for
an economic comeback.
Socialist George Papandreou is set to become Greece's next prime minister.

8 U.S. troops killed in battle with militants in Afghanistan

Friday on the Philippines, Doranne Lim was holed up on the second floor
of her Manila home with her mother and her mother's helper, surrounded
by supplies.
"I'm seriously thinking about getting a sturdy rubber boat
soon, and maybe construct an elevated platform in my garage for the
car," Lim said.

1,100 dead in Indonesia quakes

At least 1,100 people are dead in Indonesia as a result of two large
earthquakes in as many days, United Nations humanitarian chief John
Holmes told reporters Thursday. Hundreds more are believed to be
injured, Holmes said. "These numbers, I fear, will rise as more

U.S. & Iran hold face to face nuke talks

In late April, WHO announced the emergence of a novel influenza A virus.
This particular H1N1 strain has not circulated previously in humans. The virus is entirely new.
The virus is contagious, spreading easily from one person to another, and from one country to another. As of today, nearly 30,000 confirmed cases have been reported in 74 countries.
This is only part of the picture. With few exceptions, countries with large numbers of cases are those with good surveillance and testing procedures in place.
