Who's winning the 'war' on Christmas?
Friday, 12.18.2009, 08:35am
Americans are in a war that pits the politically correct against
Christmas carolers, some say. They say it's a battle that plays out in
the halls of Congress, retail stores and public schools across the
country, and it's one that's been raging for years.
Republican
Rep. Henry Brown of South Carolina introduced a resolution this month
asking that the House express support for the use of Christmas symbols
and traditions and frown on any attempt to ban references to the
holiday.

Obama vs. the Banks: The Pressure Intensifies
Monday, 12.14.2009, 09:23am
Beating on Wall Street makes political sense these days.
The public
is furious that big banks and Wall Street firms are once again making
pots of money while Main Street suffers through 10% unemployment.
With
year-end bonuses soon to be handed out to financial executives, Obama
and the White House need to be seen to be on the side of the little
guy.

How is Obama being viewed in Europe?
Thursday, 12.10.2009, 06:58am
Few American presidents have been greeted with the enthusiasm Europe
demonstrated for Barack Obama on his election. In part, it was a
reaction against his predecessor -- George W. was never loved in the EU
-- but there was also the feeling that Obama was a genuine
multilateralist.
Europeans, who welcomed Obama as the candidate
of change, didn't expect him to agree with them on everything, but they
believed that he would at least listen to them.

the war in that country, as a new influx of U.S. troops is sent to join

series of politically charged amendments.
The chamber approved a
Democratic-sponsored amendment to provide women with low-cost
mammograms and other preventative tests, while rejecting a GOP proposal
to prevent government boards from influencing coverage of screening
tests for women.

Allies use Obama's Afghan plan as rallying cry
Wednesday, 12.02.2009, 08:30am
U.S. President Barack Obama's new strategy for Afghanistan earned
strong support among global allies with leaders of NATO countries using
it as a rallying cry against flagging support for the drawn-out
conflict.
But there were also warnings of caution, with other
countries and observers urging broader solutions to the Afghan problem
-- and reports of condemnation and threats from the Taliban militants
the troop surge is aimed at defeating.

President Obama at a town hall meeting earlier this week pushing his health care reform plan
"The fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the United States Senate for a public option. There never have been," Conrad said on "Fox News Sunday."
His comment signaled a shift in the health care debate, with Obama and senior advisers softening their support for a public option by saying final form of the legislation is less important than the principle of affordable coverage available to all.
