Sunday school teacher to face death penalty

Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a former Sunday school teacher accused of killing an 8-year-old California girl earlier this year.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was indicted last month in the slaying of Sandra Cantu, a playmate of Huckaby's daughter. The girl's body was found stuffed in a suitcase.
Yale student disappears

Police are searching for a Yale University graduate student, reportedly a bride-to-be, who disappeared and was last seen outside a school of medicine building.

Co-worker Debbie Apuzzo told CNN affiliate WTNH-TV that Annie Le, 24, is scheduled to be married Sunday, and "her fiance hasn't heard from her."

The boy's grandmother and her boyfriend, who already are charged with aiding the abduction, now face witness-tampering charges.

Pastor fatally shot by police in drug sting

A north Georgia pastor was shot to death by police when he struck an officer with his car after he was seen in a vehicle with a drug suspect, authorities said. Jonathan Ayers, pastor at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Lavonia, Georgia, diedTuesday afternoon.

Jaycee Dugards aunt says this is a joyful time

A woman who turned up alive 18 years after being kidnapped at age 11 is reconnecting with her family after many years apart, her aunt said. Jaycee Lee Dugard is spending time in "a secluded place" with her mother and younger sister, said Jaycee's aunt, Tina Dugard. "This is a joyful time for my family," she said. "Jaycee remembers all of us."

Phillip Garrido was a registered sex offender, required to meet with parole officers and fitted with an ankle bracelet to track his movements. Despite the close scrutiny, police say Garrido was able to kidnap 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991, rape her and father two children with her. Police say Dugard lived with her two daughters in Garrido's backyard.

A California girl snatched from the street in front of her house at age 11 in 1991 had two children with the man accused of taking her and lived in a secret backyard shed, authorities said. The 18-year mystery of what happened to Jaycee Dugard ended this week when she surfaced and corrections authorities said a sex offender admitted that he abducted her.
